About Us

Bangalore Film Forum (BFF) is an independent film society committed to building a regular, accessible, and inclusive space for cinema as an art form. BFF curates and showcases repertory and contemporary independent cinema to the people of Bangalore. Alongside special curations, panel discussions, and thematic film presentations (Directors’ retrospectives, homegrown cinema showcases, etc.)
We aim to create a rich cinematic experience that fosters a deeper appreciation for global and independent filmmaking within the city.

Mission statement

We believe that films are essential tools of cultural reflection and community engagement. From preserving film history to supporting new and local voices in contemporary cinema, we aim to create a space where film as an art form can thrive; a place to discover ambitious works by both established auteurs and emerging filmmakers.
Diversity in Cinematic History: Emphasizing the importance of films from around the world, spanning more than 12 decades, we aim to showcase the rich and diverse history of cinema, contributing to the cultural and artistic enrichment of our city.
Thoughtful Curation: Each selection is carefully curated by our team. Our curators are dedicated to discovering and offering audiences a selection of hidden gems, forgotten treasures, and smaller films that often go unnoticed in the vast landscape of mainstream cinema.
Engaging Discourse: Post-screening discussions are designed to foster critical dialogue, collective care, political education and mutual understanding, adding depth and context to the cinematic experience creating a passionate community of film lovers.

Vision

Celebrate cinema as an essential art form, foster a home for art house films and create a thriving community around the film culture in Bangalore.

Why are film clubs needed?

Why are film clubs needed?

Cinema plays a crucial role in shaping cultural consciousness and national identity, yet today its deeper artistic and social value is increasingly overlooked. As film literacy declines and algorithm-driven platforms narrow what audiences see, cinema risks being reduced to disposable entertainment rather than a shared cultural language. At the same time, the rapid loss of film heritage threatens the preservation of histories, ideas, and voices that once defined artistic expression.

Community-based cinematic experiences offer a vital counterpoint to this erosion. Watching films together—beyond “junk food” cinema, creates space for reflection, dialogue, and mental well-being, especially in a life increasingly defined by work and isolation.
Cinema, at its best, is a collective act that connects people to stories larger than themselves and opens pathways to diverse, critical perspectives often absent from mainstream circulation.

BFF seeks to fill a growing void in Bangalore’s film landscape by building a regular, inclusive platform for independent, repertory, and diverse cinema. By preserving film history, nurturing critical engagement, and creating space for filmmakers to present their work, BFF aims to bring meaningful films back to the public screen, and in doing so, spark a broader cultural shift in how cinema is seen, shared, and valued.

Culture needs support

Culture needs support

Culture needs support

Institutional support from government film bodies, cultural organizations, or CSR initiatives is essential for the survival and growth of local film clubs. Assistance can be in the form of enabling access to film archives, funding, venues, material support in the form of equipment. Such support lends legitimacy, resources, and continuity to grassroots initiatives.

Additionally, support from individual filmmakers, artists, and the wider public is vital too. We have been fortunate enough for multiple filmmakers to have lent screening permissions for their films, and for film-writers & critiques to have helped us in various programs (conversation moderation, curation, film introduction etc.)
