Film Screenings & Panel Talk
Curated by: Bangalore Film Forum with Ashish Rajadhyaksha

22 - 25, January 2026
at Rangoli Metro Art Centre, M.G. Road
Bangalore has had a curious resistance to becoming a character in its cinema. Films have been set in the city for decades, and of course shot in the city. Films that make Bangalore a constituent presence - where the city itself has a role to play - are rarer. This retrospective opens up a rich tradition of such cinema, from the independent cinema to mainstream films, in Kannada, Malayalam and English. From navya literature and the bandaaya movement, from the diverse radical movements of the 1970s to action movies bringing in crime, gangsters, migrants and other protagonists addressing taking new challenges of alienation and survival, through to the era of ‘IT-BT’, new Dalit and feminist movements, this retrospective covers a wide span.
