Future/present is a series that brings together a group of films that feel very alive to the moment we’re in—and, in many ways, to what might be coming next. These are narrative films, but not in any straightforward or traditional sense. They experiment with the form, often asking us to rethink how stories are told on screen.

There’s a wide range here—films from different countries and languages, different tones and styles. Some are quiet and introspective, like Petite Maman or The Cathedral or Afire. Others lean into absurdity or satire, like The Twentieth Century. Films like Memoria or Eureka or Pacifiction take their time, asking for a different kind of attention. What connects all of them is a seriousness about form, not just what is being said, but how it's being said. They experiment with structure, tone, and visual language. Some may feel challenging or unfamiliar at first, and that’s part of the experience. These films don’t always offer easy answers or clear resolutions, but they stay with you.

This series is less about fitting into a specific theme, and more about noticing a shift—a quiet but significant one—in how filmmakers around the world are thinking about narrative cinema today. Future/present is a small window into that space.
