It is my privilege to present this curated selection of Indian independent films for the Bangalore Film Forum.

There are seven films in this section and these films embody the spirit of independence, not only in the way they are made—often with limited resources and boundless creativity—but also in the stories they dare to tell and the unique forms they explore.
They take us on a journey across diverse spaces, from the bustling cityscapes and rural villages of India, to the serene heights of the Himalayas. Each setting becomes a character in its own right, shaping the narrative and adding depth to the stories being told with unflinching honesty. I believe that these films capture the essence of India's vibrant independent cinema movement.

If you are in bangalore, don’t miss these amazing films. My sincere thanks to each of the filmmakers and Vinayak Bhat of Bangalore film forum for making this happen.

The witty heroine deploys subtly comical trickery with deadpan precision to evade advances and maintain her own independence.

Curators Note:
Laila Aur Satt Geet is a visually stunning journey through the life of Laila, a young girl from Kashmir's nomadic Gujjar Bakarwal community. Against the backdrop of Kashmir's turbulent landscape, Pushpendra Singh weaves a poignant tale of freedom and belonging.

Curator's Note:
Kayo Kayo Colour is a heartfelt film exploring the daily life and affects of a lower middle-class family in Ahmedabad. Shot in black and white, it offers a genuine and moving portrayal of ordinary moments and relationships.

Stomp / Malayalam / 85 mins

A Theatre Group is rehearsing their play. On the day of performance, they reach the venue early in the morning and finish their final corrections and stage settings before evening. After a long tedious annual day celebration of the residence association, the group begins the Play.
